Description
Main purpose of the role - to work with the Finance Director, to ensure robust financial management of the firms UK business units, driving performance improvement and providing a high quality finance business partnering service to the four department heads. Leading a team of four finance managers and four analysts on a day to day basis and working with other areas of finance (Firmwide FP&A, Financial Control, Working Capital management)
Key responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility for the reporting, analysis and commentary of the UK group's financial performance both in Finance SMT/Executive documents and for inclusion in practice group management meetings.
- Leading monthly financial performance review meetings
- Responsibility for leading and co-ordinating practice group budgeting, planning and forecasting as well as contributing to target setting.
- Proactively identifying areas of under or over performance in the UK businesses, seeking to understand the drivers for these and making recommendations.
- Providing senior level commercial finance support to any of the UK groups as requested by the Finance Director
- Co-ordinating and leading pitch and pricing support covering tenders to clients including pricing, alternative fee proposals and ongoing post tender review.
- Proactively seek out project work that plays a key role in assisting the commercial and firm wide teams.
- Member of the Finance Extended Leadership team, able to participate in the management and leadership of the wider finance team
- Leadership, performance management and development of a team of four Commercial Finance Managers, all with extensive post qualification experience
Profile
The individual will be a qualified accountant (ACA/ CIMA / ACCA / International equivalent)
- Ability to influence key business strategies and initiatives. Can take a strategic view of the business and impact on Finance to improve and deliver a proactive service
- Commercial finance background, able to demonstrate the creation of a results driven environment
- Strong verbal, written and presentation skills with an ability to write insightful financial and commercial commentaries based upon sound financial analysis under demanding deadlines.
- Strong knowledge of management information systems (including Excel) and making best use of these for reporting purposes.
- Build credibility and confidence of senior business leaders so they view Finance as a key business partner
- Highly organised approach with the ability to prioritise and redistribute work across the team as needed
- Willingness to engage with the business at a variety of levels from the strategic to dealing with operational issues and queries as needed, from high level analysis to more detailed work
- Service oriented with experience of stakeholder management & the potential to establish a polished reputation in the business quickly
- Experience of managing a team of qualified professionals and analysts in essential
- Reliable, enthusiastic and have a 'can do' approach
- Strong commercial awareness with experience and ability in understanding complex and diverse business requirements
- Experience and ability in building strong working relationships and influencing at all levels, highly adept at stakeholder management.
- Shows tolerance for stress, ambiguity and changing demands
