The Charity:
Established in 1986, the Islington Chinese Association (ICA) works tirelessly in advancing the rights of Chinese people in London and beyond, building a vibrant and integrated community. Our aim is to promote diversity through integration, challenge limitations and facilitate social change.
The focus of the Association’s objective is to work towards a fair and just society whereby the Chinese can assimilate into the wider community and enjoy living in the UK celebrating shared values.
ICA provides social services, promotes Chinese traditions and cultural heritage, serves as a bridge between Chinese immigrants and mainstream groups, promotes British/Chinese interests, engage in charitable activities.
ICA’s services/activities include: luncheon for pensioners and neediest, wellbeing and health promotion, integration, sports, education/cultural and arts programmes, welfare advice/general information, outreach and befriending, volunteers participation, community cohesion, facilitating a hub for youth meetings, homeless support with free breakfast throughout the year and twice monthly vegetarian lunch, winter shelter between January and March, meetings for alcohol anonymous, drug misuse and different faith groups worship, just to list a few here.
The Role:
• Maintain books and records on all income and expenses on a regular basis
• Carry out regular bank reconciliations
• Prepare monthly management accounts for Trustee meetings in an ‘easy-to-understand’ format
• Assist with the preparation of Annual Financial Statements
• Assist with preparing budgets, financial projections in funding applications, ad hoc financial assessments of the organisation etc.
Likely Time Commitment:
Approximately 1 day per month (weekdays or evenings)
Skills and Qualifications:
• You will be a qualified finance professional (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), with knowledge of bookkeeping and financial management
• You have good excel skills, ability to work in an organised and independent manner
• You are analytical and able to communicate clearly including to people not financially trained
• You have an understanding of community financial and accounting system requirements
• You are sensitive to people from diverse backgrounds
• This role will suit an individual who is looking for a volunteering opportunity to apply their professional skills in a small charity in the medium to long term
