The above Medical Scientist post has become
available in the Laboratory department. The role is multi-disciplinary; mainly
based in Biochemistry . Permanent, 40 hours per week . The Role: Perform routine duties as required for the Laboratory. Assist in the organisation and the co-ordination of the
Laboratory. Assist
in the implementation and maintenance of a quality management system in the
Laboratory. Act as
deputy for the Senior Scientist for the Laboratory when required. Participate
in the Galway Clinic Laboratory on-call rota. Participate
in the implementation of operational processes to the standards of Best
Practice in order to optimise use of resources. Actively
participate in and promote continuing education and research activities
consistent with the values of the Clinic. Ensure
that all samples are processes in accordance with standard operating
procedures. Observe
the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient or Clinic
information. Ensure
that policy relating to the Laboratory record keeping is followed. Co-operate
in evaluating assays, equipment, consumable items and research projects. Participate
in facilitating the training of staff as appropriate. Actively
participate in internal and external quality control and quality assurance. Participate
as required in the provision of appropriate statistical and management
information. Participate
in ensuring that effective safety procedures are in place to comply not only
with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act but also within the spirit of
the Clinic's mission, vision and values. Also participate in ensuring that these safety procedures are known and
followed. Although
primarily based in one department, will be expected to perform duties as
rostered or requested by Senior Staff in all Laboratory disciplines, [including
Microbiology, Haematology, Blood Transfusion, Biochemistry and Histology
departments]. The Candidate: Relevant
Scientific Qualification (BSc in Biomedical or related Science) Must be eligible for
membership of the ACSLM Post Qualification Medical Scientist experience - 2
