An experienced Trading Underwriter is required by one of the UK's leading specialist personal and business insurance providers to join their team based in Cheltenham.

The Role:

Reporting to the Head of Product and Capacity, as a Trading Underwriter you will be responsible achieving business income and annual Target Loss Ratios objectives by managing the technical performance of accounts and Insurer performance by delivering an efficient underwriting service to all key stakeholders. You will work with those key stakeholders to help develop new markets and products, within our Commercial Lines Proposition.

  • Accountable for performance of your team and individual team members ensuring that objectives are aligned, performance metrics are set, communicated and reviewed and that individual performance reviews are carried out
  • Create culture that motivates individual and team performance, maintaining positive and professional team morale.
  • Accountable for meeting all required service levels across the business unit.
  • Achieve quality assurance targets and where required develop and deliver action plan to address short comings
  • Deal with new business enquiries, renewals and mid-term adjustments, within authority.
  • Work collaboratively with other parts of the organisation, when required.
  • Comply with Binder, procedures and underwriting authority levels.
  • Contribute towards business Net Written Premium (NWP) objectives whilst working towards the businesses annual Target Loss Ratios
  • To undertake training in line with agreed objectives and keep up-to-date with technical, legal and market developments via use of e-learning, internal training and reading market related material.
  • To maintain and develop personal knowledge and skills through continued professional development as well as ongoing at desk training and ensuring that this is recorded in line with Training & Competency requirements.   • To conduct the business of the Company at all times in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • The jobholder will, at various times, act for the insured and insurer. The jobholder will be responsible for adhering to all the Group's procedures and policies in relation to the identification and management of
  • potential conflicts of interest and for the fair treatment of customers, and will ensure they follow the systems and controls operating to ensure that this is the case.
  • Conduct regular case reviews to ensure that technical procedures and standards are always followed.
  • Support the personal development of the underwriting staff in the Trading Office by delivering technical guidance
  • Undertake referral cases above the authority levels of underwriters under the jobholder's control.
  • Contribute to the technical knowledge of the Company by feeding back technical and commercial market intelligence.
