Background – About COBCOE

COBCOE is an independent, non-profit making organisation representing British chambers of commerce throughout Europe. Owned by its members, acting as an umbrella organisation, it works with its member chambers to advance international trade and business with the United Kingdom.
COBCOE was founded, and continues to operate, with a clear aim: to protect and promote the collective interests of its member chambers, and their business members, through united representation, cooperation and trade stimulation.

Governance structure

COBCOE is incorporated as a Company limited by guarantee, registered at UK Companies House on 28th October 2013. Registration number 08751213.

COBCOE is governed by its AGM which meets in London once per year.
COBCOE is led by a Management Committee constituted of the senior executive leadership team/ the Executive Directors of the Company; the Chairman, Deputies, Honorary Treasurer and Chief Executive (ex-officio) together with Non-Executive Directors that represent the membership of COBCOE. Collectively the “Officers of the Company” elected by the AGM.
The Board serves a term of 3 years, and members of the Board are eligible for re-election, up to a maximum 2 terms of office.

Board membership carries legal responsibility under UK Company law and appointment and termination rules set by UK Companies House are strictly adhered to. All Directors are legally registered with Companies House upon appointment and declared in annual returns of the Company.
The Board elects its Chairperson and the Chairperson appoints the Deputies.

The Board may create various relevant advisory/ working committees to assist with specific projects and initiatives of the organisation from time to time.

The Board will meet regularly; normally 2 times remotely and in person at least 2 times per year (beginning and end of the calendar year).
The Board is supported by a general management staff team, headed up by the CEO and a small group of external services providers such as a subcontracted professional book-keeper who is responsible for producing full management reports for and for maintaining day to day financial records, under the supervision of the CEO.

A firm of independent Auditors is appointed to be responsible for the preparation, review and auditing of the COBCOE annual accounts each year.
